Windows 7 is the latest operating system released by Microsoft. It was released to manufacturing on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 and to the public on Tuesday, October 22, 2009. Windows 7 is the predecessor to Windows Vista.

Windows 7 went through many changes before it was released. It was originally codenamed "Backcomb" but was delayed in 2003 when "Longhorn" was announced. Longhorn is known as Vista now.

Blackcomb was planned on being the successor to Windows XP but due to some major flaws and viruses on XP, both projects were delayed to patch the issues. Blackcomb was renamed to "Vienna" in 2006 and later called "Windows 7" in 2007 because it is the seventh edition to the NT operating system family.
